Teflon Coating Types
The phrase Teflon has been associated with the word “nonstick”. Teflon coating on the other hand goes beyond offering people with nonstick surface. This is because of the reason that in the engineering and industrial world, Teflon coating has a totally different application for it can make or break a product or machine. In fact, there are different types of coatings that can be bought and here are some of them.
Teflon PTFE – this is an abbreviation for poly tetrafluoroethylene and one of the most popular options too. Such nonstick coating does consist of primer as well as top coat. Out of all fluoropolymers that can be bought in the market, the PTFEs are capable of handling even the most extreme temperatures that reaches up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit.
Another great benefit of using PTFE is that, it has low coefficient or friction. It is resistant too to abrasions and to other types of chemicals.
Teflon FEP – if you’re looking for nonporous film, then the FEP or also called as fluorinated ethylene propylene copolymer will be your best bet. This type of coating actually flows on the baking process for it melts. FEP is quite resistant even to the most used chemicals and at the same time, very effective coating for nonstick. Not just that, it comes in water-based liquid and powder.
Teflon PFA – this particular Teflon coating is the same with FEP in some ways but it is capable of withstanding higher temperature throughout continuous use. PFA or perfluoroalkoxy is tougher than PTFE or FPE so it is capable of handling more than the first two kinds of coating. Similar to FEP, it comes in water based liquid and powder.
Tefzel ETFE – no doubt, this is the strongest and the toughest available fluoropolymer on the market. The great thing about this coating is that, it is not fluorinated which is critical in other applications.
Teflon one coat – in case that you’re looking for Teflon coating that is solvent based instead of water based, then One Coat might be the one you’re looking for. This coating works flawlessly in resisting abrasions as it is blended and very tough. Also, it works best on smooth metal surfaces, which is another advantage it has.
Teflon dry lubricant – oftentimes, you will be glad of using dry lubricate when the process involves high velocities and pressure. Like the One Coat, this is also solvent based however, the difference is that, the coatings follows different design process. It is for this exact reason why they are capable of having peak performance even under on high amounts of velocity or pressure without compromises.
